EXPLORATION
Week 1 -
Module Briefing & Group Forming
This week, we were briefed on the module information and tasked with forming groups. Our cohort has been divided into three groups, each comprising six members with different specialisations to facilitate collaboration and diverse skill sets within the groups. Unlike previous semesters, all three groups are required to "fight" for the same project, majoring in App Design (UI/UX). In addition to the App design, each team is expected to provide other solutions within the scope of their specialisations. The selected app design / winning team will be coded by collaborators from the School of IT.
<-- This project seems to be to much challenge due to the "fight mode". -->
However, I have been placed in a group of six, and we've named ourselves MBTIC3, reflects an introverted nature, as we tend to be "ICE". We are consisted of :
- Me |UI/UX (Leader)
- Tan Pei Yun | UI/UX
- Carmen Chua | UI/UX
- Leong Jiahui | ED
- Wong Jun Zhe | ED
- Viola Allegra Tioridda | DA

Once the group was formed, we were required to study the project brief (Fig 1.1) before the next class to prepare ourselves for the project and understand our scope.
Week 2 -
Project Discussion, Planning, Conduct Research & Define Problem Statement
This week, our group encountered some confusion regarding the instructions provided by Ms. Lilian. We initially believed that we were supposed to wait for her guidance on creating the empathy map and defining the problem statement during the tutorial slot. However, we later realised that we needed to complete these tasks before the session. To adjust to this misunderstanding and meet the deadline, we decided to condense our two-week task into one, which made the journey quite challenging.
#Meeting 1 @
Task 1 Planning
To expedite our progress, we held a quick meeting within our group to discuss our next steps. Our meeting resulted in a plan to :
➜ Contextual research
➜ User personas
➜ User journey map
➜ Empathy map
➜ Competitor analysis
Fig 2.1 Week 2 - Meeting #1 @ Task Assign
Each team member was assigned a specific task to complete and I was responsible for the "Empathy Map - Client". We having the ideation to create a version for the client as we believed that by understanding the client's perspective and user behaviours, we could better address their needs in our project. To ensure that our work was organised, I took the initiative to organise the whiteboard, making it more neat and accessible for my team to define tasks.

As I believed Viola would be focusing on competitor analysis, I decided to conduct some contextual research regarding the features of app design that the client had mentioned to help me gain a better understanding of the specific requirements and expectations of the client, allowing me to contribute more effectively to our project. And, I also did some research and list down some potential feature to make the application to be more unique and shine in the market.
Continue then, Although the plan was to create the empathy map individually, Pei Yun and I decided to have a discussion after our other module's physical class to work on it together. As a result of this planning, we decide to complete all three empathy maps: contractors, homeowners, and the client's :

Fig 2.4 Empathy Map - Homeowners
Fig 2.5 Empathy Map - Client / Quantocube
The empathy maps we created have provided us with valuable insights into the behaviors and needs of our target audience and clients. By analysing these empathy maps, we have gained a deeper understanding of the challenges, motivations, and preferences of our users to help us focus our efforts more effectively and determine the most relevant and impactful solutions for our project. Aside, I also analyse some of the potential question to ask the client.
#Meeting 2 @
Share Findings, Finalise Interview Question & Presentation Slide Discussion
Fig 2.6 #Meeting 2 Discussion
During meeting #2, we spent approximately 3.5 hours in a lengthy discussion to share our findings from the past few days, finalise the interview questions together, and assign tasks for the presentation slides. Each member has been assigned specific tasks, and I am primarily focused on creating the target audience profiles and defining the problem statement.

Aside from individual task, as our group also intended to create surveys for both homeowners and contractors. However, we found it challenging to find participants to answer our survey within the 24-hour timeframe. To ensure the validity and power of our data, I took the initiative to send the survey links to potential participants and requested their assistance in completing the questionnaire :
🏡 Homeowner Survey Link : https://forms.gle/ePY2wBm22iX5aQ5v9
👷 Contractor Survey Link : https://forms.gle/SQr2wGPSqZtoSV9s6
Fig 2.7 Data Collection
Due to the time constraints, I decided to gather the survey responses through social media platforms and by directly reaching out to potential homeowners and contractors to ensure we collected the necessary information for our project. A total of 3 contractors and 16 homeowners's data was successfully been collected, and we passed the data to Jun Zhe and Carmen for data analysis.
In the meanwhile, I also provided assistance and support to the team with the template design. Pei Yun was experiencing difficulties in this area, so I helped to align the template design with the client's potential colour schemes.
Fig 2.9 Insert Contextual Research in Project Document
To enhance the effectiveness of our contextual research, I inserted a dedicated section about "contextual research" in our project document. As I believed that this section would be a crucial part of each of our contextual research efforts, and our research should serve as a statement to bolster our problem statement and overall project.
Week 3 -
Task 1 Final Touch & Presentation
#Meeting 3 @
Rehearsal, Adapt Challenge & Final Touch
And it come to Monday Night, our initial plan to have a rehearsal was met with several challenges. To adapt, we decided to change our approach and had each team member record their potential duration for the presentation to estimate our time planning and ensure we did not exceed the assigned presentation duration.
Fig 3.1 The "night" stuff - until 4.30 in the morning :')
Despite the challenges, we persevered and stayed late to settle the issues. With the help from Pei Yun, we able to finalise the remaining tasks on the slides and inserted any leftover content to ensure the presentation flowed smoothly the next day.

Finally, it was time for our presentation for Task 1. Fortunately, our presentation went smoothly, and I appreciated everyone's efforts in delivering a great presentation. After the presentation, we had a short feedback session with Ms. Lilian about our presentation, and she provided some advice for the upcoming Task 2 .

FEEDBACK
Week 3 / 07.05.2023 @ Task 1 Presentation
I appreciate the thoroughness of your research and the emphasis you placed on analysis. Your competitive analysis has provided valuable insights into what competitors offer and how QuantoCube can enhance its offerings. The detailed findings had also demonstrated your creative thinking skills. As the findings suggest, the app could be complex, so it's important to carefully consider how to implement these ideas into your design. However, it's crucial to remember the limitations of the project and ensure that your solutions are feasible within these constraints.
REFLECTION
Task 1 was indeed a journey full of challenges and growth opportunities. Initially, I felt a bit disappointed to see the project brief focusing on UI/UX again, as I was hoping for a chance to step out of my comfort zone. One of the most challenging moments was the misunderstanding of the project instructions, which required our group to collaborate closely to complete our 2.5 weeks task to 1 week. Despite the challenges, I appreciated for the team's support for my "challenging" ideas, especially in conducting surveys and gather data collection within a short period to strengthen our project's foundation.
Overall, the findings from Task 1 laid a solid groundwork for Task 2, guiding us towards crafting a design solution that not only meets but exceeds user expectations. These insights effectively showcased the potential complexity of the app and highlighted the importance of thoughtful implementation to maintain user-friendliness. However, staying within our project limitations while making the design shine in the market proved to be a real challenge, one that we will need to tackle further in Task 2 and beyond. To sum up, the experience in Task 1 underscored the importance of teamwork, adaptability, and creativity in design and hope we can expand our creativity into the continuous task! :D
