LECTURES
#WEEK 12
DRD LECTURES #12 : How to Turn a Dissertation into a Article
#Important Notes :
1. The Structure and Reference Style for Articles
Typically, an article will consisted with Title page, Abstract, Keywords, Main Text introduction, Materials and methods (methodology), Result (Data Analysis and findings), Discussion, Acknowledgments, Declaration of interest statement, References, Appendices, Table(s) and Figure(s).
2. Dissertation vs. Journal Article
To sum up, journal articles are much shorter than dissertations and compact style.
3. Jurnal Article Requirement
- Keep the introduction short and straight to the point.
- Combine research questions or focus on one research question only for the article.
- Tightening the methodology keep the method section succinct
- Report only the main findings in result, present the findings relevant to the research questions.
- Ensure discussion is clear and concise.
#WEEK 13 - 14
Final Project : Research for Journal Article Publication
MODULE INFORMATION
Design Research Dissertation - Final Project : Research for Journal Article Publication
INSTRUCTION
For this particular task, we are required to adapt our dissertation into a concise paper suitable for publication, adhering to The Design School KREATE journal's requirements. We as the author are to download the KREATE Raw Input template with the specific font to be used, and the authors are not allowed to edit the format set in the template as described in the Manuscript Preparation Guide of the journal.
EXPLORATION
After recall back the lecture video recording, I had noted on some important aspect that we only were required to focus on one of the research objectives into the Journal Article Publication. Before I developed myself into the Journal article compaction, I followed the task requirement on download the specific fonts and templates in order to better develop into the task.

After downloaded the fonts, I departed myself into the adventure of Journal article publication. I summarised and refined the needed parts in Final Dissertation Paper into the Journal article. The development of the particular week (week 12) was documented under the PDF below :

Feedback _ week 14 / 03.07.2023
General Feedback :
1. In Journal Article, it’s not significant for using slash, bullet point would be more recommended.
1. In Journal Article, it’s not significant for using slash, bullet point would be more recommended.
Specific Feedback :
1. Change "the research paper" to "the article" to minimize word count
2. Refocus the study's aim on the "expert perspective" of understanding UI and UX challenges in designing effective and user-friendly interfaces for online e-commerce applications
3. Instead of specific platform names, mention that experts are sharing their insights on the Asian Shopee and the Western Amazon
4. Include examples of abstracts from the findings that demonstrate ways to improve user engagement
5. Elaborate on anything that supports the expert point of view, including secondary data
6. Verify the reliability of the article authors and remove irrelevant statements
7. Highlight the gap in problem statements without overly emphasizing the importance of UI and UX design
8. Provide proper citation for the statement "Poor UI or UX design can result in low user engagement and significant losses for businesses"
9. Add one or two more points about the poor functionality of UI and UX design
10. Focus on relevant findings rather than reviewing all aspects of the journal article.
After receiving the feedback from Dr. Hayati, I continued my journey to amend and reconstruct the journal arcticle based on the feedback and word counts requirement. Although the fact i had discussed the title with Dr. Hayati, but when I was in the progress on refining and reconstruct, I figured that my topic "Asian perspectives of experts" was not approachable in terms of my contexts as I having one respondents from Nigeria, which is a country in West Africa. So, I changed the title to "An Analysis of User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) of E-commerce Application from Experts Perspective" to make the article to be more reliable.

REFLECTION
Week 14
This week, I made progress on my Journal Article Publication after receiving feedback and completing the Turnitin. However, I faced some challenges due to personal emotions and distractions from other modules during Week 14. It took me a few days to refocus and get back on track, and I am grateful to Dr. Hayati for granting me an extension. I found that working on the Journal Article Publication was a bit more challenging compared to the dissertation paper, especially when it came to managing the word count. Additionally, during the revision process, I realized that I needed to broaden the perspective in the title. Instead of focusing solely on Asian perspectives, I expanded it to include a more general viewpoint. This change was necessary because upon reviewing the data, I discovered that respondents from Nigeria, which is part of West Africa, were also included in the study. After completing the Journal Article, I felt a sense of liberation and pride in myself as this means I had completed the module, Design Research Dissertation. I genuinely appreciate the energy, determination, and perseverance I have demonstrated throughout this journey. It is a significant achievement for me, considering the challenges I faced in maintaining focus while working on a digital screen from the beginning until today.
