Mise En Scène

In French, it literally means: mise (putting) en (on) scène (stage).

It refers to what we see onscreen; its visuals; meaning, all of the elements that appear on camera and their arrangement. Every elements in the frame carry meanings. The elements :

WEEK 5 @
Storyboarding

Storyboarding
Storyboarding means to Visualization. When the scene has a complicated action involved or few perspective point of view, storyboard is the most effective way to map out the scene.

The concepts is originally developed on Disney during 1930s. Storyboarding involves converting a script into a comic that depicts the action visually. When the storyboarding effect apply in film, it will provided a layout of events as seen through the eyes of the camera. Contemporary storyboards are used not only in film, but in a wide variety of multimedia projects.

#Purpose of Storyboard
- Show important action
- Continuity / editing point
- Shot composition
- Indicate camera angle/ movement
- Map out the scene

#Storyboarding process
1. Do story breakdown [Get shot list ready for storyboarding]
2. Use floor plan to mark out the camera position
3. Camera angles for each sequence can be indicated in the floor plan.
4. Start from EWS/ WS, the cut in to characters/ objects. [cut between action and reaction]
5. Cut to different framing and different angle shot. [use cut away to enhance storytelling and creating mood. Cut away or C.U shot can insert as transition for new scene].

Animatic
Animatic is defined as series of images played in sequence, often with a soundtrack. In essence, it's animated storyboard.

#Advantage of Animatic
- Timing of every shot
- Rhythm of the scene
- Audio & music added

//there are an extra trial session for us to tried on stop motion//

WEEK 11 @ Colour Correction

#Colour Correction
- Colour correction refers to the process where every individual clip of a video footage is altered to match colour temperature of multiple shots to a consistent technical standard of appearance.
- It's about balancing out the colours, making the whites and blacks to be consistent.

During the "offline" editing is about edit the sequences; whereas "online editing" is when you did the colour corrections, audio, captions, credit and etc.
#Contrast - to adjust the radius between the brightest and darkest part.

#Colour Correction Process
1. Decide the luminosity value
2. Be colour blind; see only highlight, midtown, shadow.
3. Adjust the basic correction; exposure, highlight, shadow [right click and select Display Mode > comparison view to see Before & After] (fig 4.1)

Fig 4.1 comparison view (week 5/ 26.09.2022)

4. Eye dropper for colour correction. (balance with temperature & tint)
5. Colour Grading
Create an adjustment layer [file > new > adjustment layer] & curve adjustment to increase the contrast.
#Bluish - adjust on the RGB curves; wheel
#Greenish - usually for horror theme (might adjust on the tint, RGB curves); wheel
#Apply complimentary colours (two colours) : Teal & Orange.
Skin tones sit somewhere in the orange spectrum, so pushing teals into the shadow will help skin tones stand out from the rest of the image.

#Colour Correction Tutorial Outcome
I did some adjustments based on the tutorials and finalised the outcome below (basic correction & colour grading) :
//I had turned down the audio since the audio having lots of loud ambience.//
